Why is the club named Little Power?
Our name serves as a constant reminder of who we are. As our skills develop, it is natural to develop an ego, especially before the less skilled. When this happens, we must remember that we are all limited. No matter who we are or how good we think our abilities are, we only have a little power. Each breath we take is a precious gift from God, and it is through His mercy and grace that we find peace, joy, and fulfillment in both our martial arts journey and our time in this world. Regardless of our skill level, we must stay vigilant and mindful of our actions as any one of us can stumble if we lose sight of our purpose and value.
The phrase ‘Little Power’ comes from the Book of Revelation (Rev.3.8-11). In it, seven churches are described, some that were rich in wealth, some followed strict law, but the churches could lack love for God or have lost sight of God. The poorer church of Philadelphia was one of brotherly love. What makes a club enjoyable is the people that are part of it – the right community can make the hardest training fun and the fight worth fighting for. Though the Church of Philadelphia had little power, they depended on God, who was their mighty and trustworthy strength, and they kept their faith. Through God they shepherded one another in Him. Despite only having ‘Little Power,’ we recognize God as our ultimate source of strength. This fundamental belief is the very core of why we’ve chosen the name ‘Little Power’.
Styles
After years of training in various martial arts disciplines, we understand that there is no universally superior style; rather, it’s about finding what works best for each individual. For instance, WKF competition-style karate is renowned for its exceptional footwork, and its competitors are unmatched in speed and agility. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that certain rules may restrict full-contact techniques like leg kicks, knee strikes, and grappling. On the other hand, Muay Thai stands out as one of the most comprehensive striking styles, encompassing various aspects of combat. What’s needed for all strike-focused styles are grappling skills such as judo, wrestling, and BJJ. Having experienced different styles, we emphasise the significance of practicality and adaptability. In the end, it’s not about adhering to a particular style, but about utilising the most effective techniques in real-life situations. Join us on our journey as we explore the diverse world of martial arts and celebrate the beauty of each style’s unique strengths.
